Hair restoration conference

The recently concluded AAHRS and AHRS 2013 conference in Bangalore, India, has been an academic feast for the delegates. With more than 200 delegates, the meeting was a huge success. It was a treat to hear very informative wide ranging topics in hair restoration. Few pearls which I feel might be of immense help to the clients or patients.

Don't be biased towards not taking a medical treatment with minoxidil and finasteride. Many a times the continuing treatment and uncommon reversible side effects. The medical treatment not only delays the progression but at times shows a significant improvements in the areas of thinning or balding with miniaturised hair. With right separation and technique of administration , A-Cell and PRP treatment looks promising.

Though both FUT and FUE hair transplant is equally effective as a hair transplant procedure, but there is a increasing demand of FUE as the hair transplant client feel the FUE procedure as a lesser invasive procedure. There was a consensus of hair transplantation with combination technique in extensive baldness.

It's not only the density but also the hairline which is of immense importance in achieving a good hair transplant result. More and more hair transplant surgeons are moving beyond the scalp to beard and body as a source of donor hairs. Beard and body hair transplant has almost become a necessity to get a good coverage in severe baldness. The use of beard and beard hair should be preferably done in conjunction with scalp donor hair so as to minimise or hide the unnatural feel or texture.

I personally feel that patient suffering with hairloss should educate themselves by information shared  by  international and national hair restoration society(www.ahrs.com , www.ishrs.com). The information is highly scientific and unbiased. By doing so, the patient will not only start the right treatment at the right time but also save a lot of resources. Believe in right scientific information rather than magical solution.
