Hair transplant/ FUE hair transplant in scar area

We often get patient for loss of beard/ moustache/ eyebrow following scarring. Common misconception about hair transplant into the scar area is that hair follicle cannot be transplanted into scar tissue because they won’t survive due to lack of blood supply. This is totally wrong. At the time of injury and subsequent suturing, adjacent hair follicles are damaged. With time the scar spread and this leads to absence of hair follicle in scar line. Scar area has lesser blood supply compared to normal area but that’s not a contraindication for hair transplant.  We don’t do dense packing in  the scar area. Patients are generally called for a second hair transplant session to achieve a good density. Hair transplant into the scar area needs a skilled specialist hair transplant surgeon as there are many other finer modifications over the hair transplant in a normal area.
